Floyd Allred, 85, Longtime Greenwich Resident

GREENWICH, Conn. – Floyd Allred of Greenwich died Feb. 1 at Greenwich Hospital of natural causes. He was 85.

Born Nov. 1, 1927, in Richmond County, N.C., he was the son of Jeter Alexander Allred Sr. and Montie Copeland Allred. He grew up in Ellerbe, N.C., and graduated from Ellerbe School.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Duke University, he received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Denver. His career in business publication advertising sales spanned 47 years.

He retired in 1996 from the Supermarket News , a publication he helped start 44 years ago.

Allred was a resident of Greenwich since 1973. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church and the Veterans of the Seventh Regiment in New York City.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carola Allred, of Greenwich; three children, Christopher, Timothy and Pamela Allred; a daughter-in-law, Sophia Skiles; a sister, Jean Taylor; a sister-in-law, Bernice Allred; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jeter Alexander Allred Jr. and Roger Howard Allred Sr.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Second Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
