GREENWICH, Conn. Eugene Sauvé Waggaman Jr. of Old Greenwich died Oct. 22 at his home. He was 95.
Born and raised in New Orleans, La., Waggaman also lived in White Plains, N.Y., and attended Dartmouth College. He served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy during World War II. He married his wife, Nancy, in 1949 and soon settled in Old Greenwich.
Waggaman worked as general manager of Motor Boating and Sailing and marketing director for Newsweek. A longtime member of the New York Yacht Club and the Rocky Point Club, he was also active in the Greenwich community, including many years as a stage actor for Connecticut Playmakers.
He wrote a regular column for seniors in the Greenwich Times and served as an escort at Greenwich Hospital. More recently, Waggaman served as president and board member of the Retired Men's Association.
He was predeceased by his wife; three brothers, Dickie, Alan and Donald; and a sister Barbara. Waggaman is survived by two sisters, Jane Gambel and Betty Tucker; six children, Susan Carter, Debbie (John) LaHines, Gene (Carol) Waggaman III, Jeff Waggaman, Doug (Lorene) Waggaman and Laura (Jim) Cubanski; 10 grandchildren and great five grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Clement of Rome Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich.
Waggaman was a strong supporter of the Alzheimer's Association throughout his wifes long illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067, or to a favorite charity.
