Emelia 'Millie' Mitchell, 83, Worked As Nurse's Aide In Greenwich

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Emelia F. Mitchell (nee Smith), 83, wife of the late Thomas Mitchell, died Sunday, Jan. 25.

Born Feb. 9, 1931, in County Cavan, Ireland, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 with her sister, the late Mary Jane Smith, and eventually settled in Port Chester. She worked as a private nurse's aide to families in Greenwich, Conn., and Rye. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Port Chester Irish American Club and the Byram Veterans Association.

She was predeceased by three brothers and a sister in Ireland and a sister in Greenwich.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas, and his wife, Mary (McPhillips); Steven, wife Debra (Therio); and three grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, from noon-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Craft Memorial Home Inc., 40 Leicester St., Port Chester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Byram Veterans Association in memory of Emelia and Thomas Mitchell.
