Earl S. Moore, Jr., 82, Of Greenwich, Ret. VP, BusinessWeek International

GREENWICH, Conn. - Earl S. Moore, Jr. of Greenwich died Aug. 16. He was 82.

Moore was born Nov. 3, 1930, in St. Louis, Mo., to Margaret and Earl S. Moore. He was a graduate of University City High School in University City, Mo., (1944 to 1948). He went on to Princeton University (1948 to 1952) where he was a member of the Cannon Club and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in Military Intelligence from 1952 to 1956. He learned to speak fluent Mandarin Chinese at the Army Language School in Monterey, Calif., and then served overseas in the Korean War.

Moore worked for McGraw Hill, Inc. from 1956 to 1991, retiring as vice president, BusinessWeek International. He was the director of international sales for BusinessWeek Magazine. He was instrumental in helping McGraw Hill establish a Chinese language edition of BusinessWeek. Upon retiring from BusinessWeek in 1991, he founded Asia Pacific Marketing and ran the consulting business for several more years before full retirement. Moore is survived by his wife, Darlene; brother, Malcolm Moore of Plymouth, Minn.; son, Earl S. "Tripp" Moore III (Laura); and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at the First Congregational Church of Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Moore’s memory to Princeton University or the First Congregational Church of Greenwich.
