Dr. Charles J. Slagle, DDS, 90, Of Riverside, Korea War Vet, Dentist

RIVERSIDE, Conn. - Dr. Charles J. Slagle, DDS, of Riverside died Sunday, June 16. He was 90.

Dr. Slagle was born June 11, 1923, in Port Chester, N.Y., son of Fred Augustus Slagle and Gretchen Fuchs Slagle. He graduated from N.Y.U. and then attended Columbia University School of Dentistry graduating in 1947.

He served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corp at Sampson Air Force Base during the Korean War. He practiced dentistry in Greenwich for over 40 years retiring in 1994. He was a leader in the dental community with membership in the Greenwich Dental Association, Western Fairfield County Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.

His service included a delegate to and later as speaker to the House of Delegates for the Connecticut State Dental Association. He was a fellow of the International College of Dentistry and the American College of Dentistry. He was a member of Christ Church and served on their governing board for many years.

Dr. Slagle is survived by his wife, Barbara Doti Slagle; former wife, Nancy Jean Slagle; daughters, Susan Slagle (Ronald Curtis), Betsy Slagle Murphy, Sallee Slagle (Duncan) Lorien, Judy Slagle (Peter) Corona; stepsons, John Bauer (Christina), Kevin Bauer (Karen), and Stephen Bauer; many grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave. Greenwich. Services will be held Thursday, June 20, at 12 p.m. at Christ Church Chapel, 254 East Putnam Ave., Greenwich and entombment will follow in Putnam Cemetery.
