Catherine L. Powers, 85, Longtime Riverside Resident

RIVERSIDE, Conn. - Catherine Loughran Powers, a longtime resident of Riverside, died May 9. She was 85.

Powers was born Sept. 29, 1928, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Ellen and Peter Loughran. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, Mass., and studied interior design at Fairfield University. She worked at Liberty Mutual in Springfield, Mass., before marrying and moving to Burlington, Vt., and Bristol, before settling in Riverside. She was a parishioner at St. Catherine's of Siena Church; past president of the Pro Christo service organization; co-founder of the Two Cathys, and a former member of Innis Arden Golf Club.

Powers is survived by her daughters, Chris Powers of Cambridge, Mass., Ellen Hochberger (Stuart) of Summit, N.J.; sons, Donald Powers Jr. (Ellen) of Ridgefield, and Jack Powers (Anne) of Fairfield; and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Donald B. Powers.

Calling hours are Wednesday, May 14 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., in Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 15 at St. Catherine of Siena Chapel in Riverside followed by Burial in Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich.
