STAMFORD, Conn. - Briggs Baugh, of Stamford and formerly of Greenwich, died Thursday, March 7. He was 85.
Baugh was born in New York City on Dec 10, 1927. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and a graduate of Williams College.
He founded and was the chairman of the Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board (GRAB) and published its quarterly newsletter, called "Grab Bag." He received an award from The State of Connecticut General Assembly for The Greenwich Recycling Program. Most recently he was given The Recycling Pioneer Award by The Connecticut Recyclers Coalition recognizing his lifetime commitment to conservation and the environment.
He worked at ABC and CBS networks for more than 23 years. Baugh was elected president of The Greenwich Young Republicans club and then State chairman of The Connecticut Young Republicans.
Baugh is survived by three daughters, Anne Baugh Minnehan of Topsfield, Mass., Betsy Baugh Necatera of Norwalk, and Jennifer Gilbert Baugh of Brigantine, N.J.; a sister, Brenda Dehmel of Greenwich; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his former wife Claire.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday March 18 at Stanwich Congregational Church, 202 Taconic Road, Greenwich, CT 06831. Burial will be private.
