Betty Anne Caldara, 97, Of Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. - Betty Anne Caldara of Greenwich died Monday, Sept. 16. She was 97.

Caldara was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Ann Arbor, Mich., daughter of Dr. Hugh M. and Ruth Pearson Beebe. She graduated from University High School in Ann Arbor in 1933. She went on to major in English and Fine Arts at the University of Michigan and was active in the Collegiate Sorosis.

After graduating in 1937, she moved to Cambridge, Mass., where she taught for several years at the Shady Hill School. After her marriage, she lived in Rye before settling in Greenwich. In Greenwich she became active in community service and served at the Greenwich Hospital. She retired with her husband to Stonington in 1972 and continued her volunteerism as a docent for 30 years at the Lyman Allen Museum in New London and the Lighthouse Museum in Stonington.

Caldara is survived by her son, Hugh (Joanne) Caldara of Washington; a niece; a grand-niece and -nephew in Jacksonville, Fla.; and a cousin. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, W. Stuart Caldara.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Road Meetinghouse First Congregational Church of Stonington.
