Armando Latorraca, 79, Former Greenwich Resident, Auto Mechanic

STAMFORD, Conn. -  Armando Latorraca of Stamford, formerly of Greenwich, died Friday, May 16. He was 79.

Latorraca was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Venosa, Italy, to Salvatore and Antonietta Orlando Latorraca. He entered the Italian Air Force at the age of 18 and served for two years. When he returned from the Air Force, he lived with his brothers in Torino. He relocated to the United States with his sons in 1970. Upon settling in Greenwich, he began working as an auto mechanic. Later, with his partner and friend he opened Expert Auto in Stamford where he worked for 24 years.

Latorraca is survived by his wife, Domenica Cotroneo Latorraca of Stamford; son, Salvatore Latorraca (JoAnn) of Stamford; four grandsons; and sister, Rosa Prete of Italy. He was predeceased by his parents; son, Giuseppe “Joey” Latorraca; and siblings, Angelo , Sr. Silvana, Alfonso, Rolando and Giuseppe.

Calling hours are Wednesday, May 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home Thursday, May 22 at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Latorraca’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, "Salsa for St. Jude”, 501 St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN 38105.
