Albert H. Fenn, 86, Of Greenwich, Designed Shoes

GREENWICH, Conn. - Albert "Al" H. Fenn, a longtime Greenwich resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 8. He was 86.

Fenn was born July 9, 1927, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Albert A. and Julia Weiting Fenn. He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and served with the Cavalry Brigade, reaching the rank of first sergeant.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on July 7, 1945, earning a sharpshooter qualification badge. He was stationed in Washington, D.C.

After his return to civilian life, he honed his artist skills at the Art Students League of New York. He had a long career designing and marketing shoes in the fashion industry. Over the decades, his career took his family to live in Chicago, New York City, Florence, Italy, and Paris. Returning stateside in July 1970, they settled in the Riverside area of Greenwich, where they remained for four decades. He retired in 1993 as vice president of Sales and Marketing from the Sterling Last Corp. of Long Island City, N.Y.

Fenn was a longtime member of the Retired Men's Association of Greenwich, a Red Cross volunteer driver and a volunteer at the Greenwich Book Recycling.

Fenn is survived by his wife, Ruth Tansey Fenn; sons Mark Fenn (Marie Rizzo) of Amelia Island, Fla., and Michael Regan Fenn, of Riverside; daughter, Carey Fenn Moses (Michael) of Alexandria, Va.; brother, Richard A. Fenn of New York City; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Roger; and sister-in-law, Sandra Smolka Fenn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside, with a reception following the church service. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. with military honors.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bruce Museum, the Greenwich Symphony or other charities of the donor's choice.
