Woman Struck, Killed By Metro-North Train Near South Norwalk Station

NORWALK, Conn. -- A woman was struck and killed by a Metro-North train overnight near the South Norwalk train station, spokesman Marjorie Anders said Monday morning.

The accident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. Monday about a half-mile west of the South Norwalk station, Anders said. The train involved was bound for New Haven.

"It was initially reported as striking debris, which happens quite a bit," she said. "They stopped the train and got out but didn't see anything. ... About an hour later a track supervisor found the body."

No identification was found, Anders said. The victim was identified as a woman in her late 20s or early 30s.

The accident remains under investigation, she said.

The Monday morning commute was not affected, she said.
