Winter Weather Advisory, Coastal Flooding Warning Issued For Greenwich

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — It may not have been snowing in the predawn hours in Fairfield County, but the entire region was under a Winter Weather Advisory on Monday as an offshore storm prepares to deliver a glancing blow on the New England coastline.

The Winter Weather Advisory remains in place until 6 p.m. Monday with 2 to 4 inches of snow in the forecast across the area. There is also a Coastal Flood Advisory in place for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.

Many school districts in Fairfield County are on early dismissal due to the approaching storm, and schools are closed in Shelton.

Winds will be picking up from 5 to 15 mph and gusting to 25 mph as temperatures drop into the 20s.

The snow will develop after daybreak and continue into the afternoon. Hazardous travel conditions are expected due to the snow-covered roads, limited visibility and blowing snow.

The snow amounts may vary widely in Fairfield County, according to the National Weather Service with a potential for:

  • Northern and Central Fairfield County: 3 to 4 inches
  • Eastern Fairfield County: 4 to 6 inches
  • Western Fairfield County: 2 to 3 inches

Coastal floods could occur at high tide along Long Island Sound due to strong winds in the ocean storm, the weather service warned.

Tidal departures of 2 to 3 feet above astronomical high tides are possible.

The biggest problems will be along vulnerable shoreline roads and coastal properties due to the height of waves and storm tide as water splashes over roadways.

High tides will occur at:

  • Stamford: 10:51 a.m.
  • Bridgeport: 10:48 a.m.

More light snow is expected on Tuesday, with another inch likely to fall, the weather service said.

The entire Fairfield County region was struck by a heavier than expected snowfall last Friday. A range of 4 to 9 inches of snow fell across Fairfield County.
