What's Happening in Greenwich This Weekend

GREENWICH, Conn. – Hockey fundraisers, Dr. Seuss’s birthday and a pregnancy fair are some of the events planned for the weekend in Greenwich. 

Friday

• Greenwich Flower Show, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Green Fingers Garden Club of Greenwich will present its flower show, "The Nature of the Game," at Christ Church Parish Hall; free. Continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

• Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Celebration, 3:30 p.m. Greenwich Library’s Children’s Services will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a party and special reading of “The Lorax," at the Greenwich Library Meeting Room; 5 years old and up; call 203-622-7940 for more information.

• Free exhibit tours at Bruce Museum, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Exhibit tours are free with price of admission on Fridays at the Bruce Museum; call 203-869-6786 for more information.

• Friday night games at the Greenwich Boys & Girls Club, 6 to 9 p.m. Middle school members of the Boys & Girls Club can swim, participate in game room tournaments, and dodge ball games on Fridays at the clubhouse; call 203-869-3224 for more information.

Saturday

• Visit Audubon Greenwich’s Nature Education Center starting for a celebration featuring live animal shows, VIP summer camp registration, and Nature Store raffles. The store has been redesigned and stocked with new gifts, toys, feeding supplies, and more. Also enjoy arts & crafts, nature exhibits, and homemade bake sale. Come for all or part of the day. • Pregnancy Primer Fair, 9 to 11 a.m. Greenwich Hospital will host its Pregnancy Primer Fair, including tours of the hospital's Birthing Center. Greenwich Hospital Noble Conference Center; free; call 203-863-3627 for more information.

• "Greenwich Lost & Preserved," 10 a.m. Greenwich Preservation Trust opens an exhibit of contemporary and vintage photographs, artifacts and paintings from private collections; at Bruce Museum. Free with museum admission.

• Children’s Theater Producation, 2 p.m. The Friends of Greenwich Library present Theatreworks USA's production of “Henry and Mudge” in Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium; 4 years old and up; free.

• Hockey Jamboree, 4 p.m. Stanley Cup Winner and goaltender for the 1994 New York Rangers Mike Richter will join the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich for a three-on-three Hockey Jamboree; featuring a live performance by The Zambonis, Greenwich’s own indie “hockey” rock band; all funds will go to support the club’s activities and programs; cost of admission is $50 per family and includes general admission to the hockey tournament, the after-party with The Zambonis, and free skate rentals, food, and refreshments; call 203-869-3224 for more information.

Sunday

• Safe Roads at Greenwich Point, 9 a.m. to noon. Walkers, joggers and cyclists can enjoy open roads at Greenwich Point through the Friends of Greenwich Point’s Safe Roads Program; free.        

• Open Mic and Poetry Reading, 3 to 5 p.m. Listen to accomplished poets read some of their work, answer questions, and speak informally about poetry; every Sunday; Arcadia Café, Old Greenwich; call 203-637-8766 for more information.

• Magic Show at Greenwich Reform Synagogue, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Greenwich Reform Synagogue presents Purim Magic, including a Megillah reading and presentation, pizza lunch and a magician; 257 Stanwich Road; free.

• Greenwich History Lecture, 2 p.m. Historian and genealogist Sylvia Hasenkopf will discuss, “Designing Woman: Lecture on Katherine C. Budd, Pioneering Female Architect and Designer of Innis Arden Cottage;” Innis Arden Cottage at Greenwich Point; free.

• Grief and Loss Support Group, 2 p.m. Support group for people who are grieving from a loss to learn coping skills; facilitated by bereavement counselor Paige Stetson, LPC, LMHC; 237 Taconic Road in Greenwich; free.

• Hockey Fundraising Game, 7:30 p.m. See the Greenwich police and Greenwich fire departments face off on the ice; all proceeds go to the Parks & Recreation Scholarship Camp Fund; Dorothy Hamill Rink; free admission.
