What's Happening Around Greenwich This Weekend

GREENWICH, Conn. – Relay for Life, Sports Day ALS benefit, a jazz benefit concert, and the first Greenwich Family Fair are some of the events planned for this weekend in Greenwich.

Friday, June 15

Libraries Closed: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Greenwich Library, Byram Shubert, and Cos Cob branches will be closed for staff to participate in a strategic planning session. Libraries will reopen at 1 p.m.

Kids Playgroup: 9:30 a.m. Kids at Play playgroup for babies, toddlers and preschoolers meets at Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich, 38 West End Ave., every first and third Friday of the month.

Relay for Life: 5:30 p.m. American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Greenwich takes place through Saturday morning at Brunswick School, King Street campus.

Friends Friday Films “Last Train Home”: 8 to 10 p.m. Directed by Lixin Fan. Getting a train ticket in China proves a towering ordeal as a migrant worker family embarks on a journey, along with 200 million other peasants, to reunite with their distant family. Shows the enormous dislocation and working conditions in the new China. In Mandarin, with English subtitles. Admission to all Friends Friday Films is free. Doors open at 7:40 p.m. at Greenwich Library Cole Auditorium, 101 West Putnam Ave.  

Saturday, June 16

Neighborhood Tag Sale: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 336 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich.

Strawberry Social: 1 p.m. Strawberry shortcake will be served, plus games for kids, face painting and the Sound Beach Community Band. Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich, 38 West End Ave., Old Greenwich. Admission is $7.

Namaste India! Global Yoga Benefit: 2 p.m. Greenwich Yoga, 328 Pemberwick Road, Greenwich. Participate in Room to Read’s first global yoga benefit to support Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program in India. Admission is free.

ALS Father’s Day/Sports Day Fundraiser: 3 to 6 p.m. Help Sydney Petrone play sports and raise funds for individuals battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich’s Camp Simmons, 744 Lake Ave., Greenwich. Sydney’s father, Greenwich Police Sgt. Roger Petrone, has been fighting ALS since 2007. Currently there is no cure for the disease. Event includes a 2-mile walk/run, soccer, basketball, softball and face painting. $5 donation per person, $10 per family.

Stravinsky: Music for Dance: 4 p.m. Stravinsky’s iconic music for ballet in chamber form presented as part of Greenwich Music Festival at Greenwich Country Day School, 401 Old Church Road, Greenwich. Admission is $5.

Backcountry Jazz Benefit Concert: 7:30 p.m. Bennie Wallace, the Disorder at the Border All Star Jazz Orchestra and guest vocalist Rene Marie perform at a private estate in Greenwich to benefit Backcountry Jazz. Call 203-869-9454 for more information on tickets and the location.

Sunday, June 17 – Father’s Day

Neighborhood Tag Sale: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 336 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich.

Family Fair Day: 3 to 7 p.m. The Junior League of Greenwich hosts first Greenwich Family Fair, including live music, games, face painting for kids, and more. Byram Park, 4 Ritch Ave. W., Greenwich.  Park pass is required, but admission is free.
