What’s Open, Closed In Westport Following Sandy

WESTPORT, Conn. – Need to charge your cell phone battery, a Wi-Fi hotspot or a hot shower?

Or maybe you’d like to hang out somewhere that has heat and warm up. Here’s a list of amenities available to Westport residents still recovering from Hurricane Sandy:

? The Westport Weston Y is closed due to flood damage. However, the Wilton Y, 404 Danbury Road, has opened its doors to all, not just members or Wilton residents.

? PHYtness 4U, 1499 Post Road E. in Fairfield, is also opening its facility to anyone who needs a shower. 

? The Westport Public Library, 20 Jesup Road, is open as a charging station and a Wi-Fi hotspot until 9 p.m. While you’re there, enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, or a snack, from the café.

? Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave., is open as a charging station. Wi-Fi also is available in the lobby and auditorium. Town Hall is open until 9 p.m.

? The Senior Center, 21 Imperial Ave., is open as a charging station and Wi-Fi hotspot until 4:30 p.m.

? The Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Powers Court, is open as a charging station until 6 p.m. Free coffee also will be served.

? Westport Arts Center is open for art programs and WiFi. Those looking to warm up, charge their wireless devices, and use the internet are welcome to come to the Westport Arts Center at 51 Riverside Ave., Thursday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, 12 p.m.-4 p.m.

On Friday, November 1 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., the Arts Center will host a free “Children’s Art Shelter,” welcoming families to come and create works of art. Parents may drop off children over the age of 5.

 

? The Westport Historical Society has power and WiFi up and running.

? Compo Beach and all town marinas are open.

? The senior center also will be open as a shelter for the frail, elderly and people in need of assistance for health needs only. Call 203-341-5099 if you’re interested in shelter. Bring clean bed linens, sheets, blankets, pillows and hand towels (there are no showers).

? Weston High School, 115 School Road, is open for charging, Wi-Fi and showers. Westport residents OK to use facility. IDs will be checked.

? The Transfer Station (Sherwood Island Connector) and Yard Waste Site (180 Bayberry Lane) are open.

Not Open: ? Westport Schools are closed through Friday.

? Burying Hill Beach is closed.

? About 40 roads were partially blocked as of 10:30 a.m.

About 10 roads that have no alternative access, also were closed.
