Weapons Of Mass Destruction Drill Will Be Held In Westchester

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – A large-scale, multi-agency exercise that features a scenario involving a major chemical release will be held Saturday in Valhalla, County Executive Rob Astorino and the Department of Emergency Services announced.

The exercise will begin at 9 a.m. at the DES Fire Training Center, 4 Dana Road in Valhalla. The goal of the exercise is to demonstrate a response to a major hazardous materials emergency or weapons of mass destruction event. The exercise will assess first responders’ ability to:

  • Triage, treat and transport multiple victims, including persons with disabilities or functional needs
  • Conduct law enforcement operations and crime scene preservation in coordination with fire and EMS operations
  • Perform decontamination and monitoring of simulated patients, evacuees and first responders

Approximately 30 federal, state, county and local agencies from law enforcement, fire, EMS, military and non-profit organizations from Westchester, Putnam, New York City and beyond will take part in the drill.
