GREENWICH, Conn. — When driving through Bruce Park in Greenwich, it's hard not to notice the orange fencing surrounding what appears to be a landscaped section of the park.

But the area actually serves an important environmental purpose. It’s a water retention pond that helps control flooding in the area.

The gravel-covered pond, which the town built last year and is letting settle, is located on Bruce Park Drive in central Greenwich.
