The women were radicalized by Islamic extremists and were tracked as part of an FBI operation, according to WABC-TV. Authorities say the public was never in danger, but it is unclear how far along they were with their plan. The women were identified as Noelle Velentzas 27,  and Asia Siddiqui, 31. The were roommates in Jamaica, Queens. Authorities believe ISIS propaganda and their alleged online activities contributed to their ultimate shift toward violence.

Sources told WABC that Siddiqui had multiple propane gas tanks and instructions to turn them into explosive devices.
