The accident at about 6:15 p.m. between Exits 17 and 16 on the southbound side of the highway. The water main is part of the infrastructure of the overpass.

As a result of the accident and the subsequent flooding, two lanes were closed into the night Thursday, causing large traffic delays, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The broken water main left many without water for hours in East Norwalk, the Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Police Department said via Twitter.

I-95 was cleared in time for Friday's morning's rush hour.
