GREENWICH, Conn. – As 2012 comes to a close, The Greenwich Daily Voice is counting down some of the top stories of the year .

Last, but not least in our countdown, the biggest story in Greenwich of 2012 was, of course, the devastation brought by Hurricane Sandy on the night of Oct. 29.

Greenwich suffered some of the worst damage in Fairfield County from the storm, including a dramatic fire on Binney Lane in Old Greenwich caught on video by the Greenwich Fire Department .

Fire Chief Peter Siecienski said if the fire was not put out when it was, it could have cut a swath through all of Old Greenwich .

The Greenwich Daily Voice spoke with a woman who lost her home on Binney Lane the morning after the storm. Later that day, Gov. Dannel Malloy, Rep. Jim Himes and Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei toured the damage on Binney Lane.

And Greenwich Daily Voice readers supplied many stunning photos of the storm damage.

Check back on Monday for a recap of our top stories of 2012 in Greenwich.
