GREENWICH, Conn. – As 2012 comes to a close, The Greenwich Daily Voice is counting down some of the top stories of the year .
On June 6, a black bear cub wandered a little too close for comfort into town. The cub was spotted behind a home on Hamilton Avenue, not far from Exit 3 off Interstate 95.
Greenwich police and officials from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection worked to corral the 70-pound bear. The cub was tranquilized and moved to a safer location.
The bear sighting was the second close encounter with a wild visitor in as many years in Greenwich. A mountain lion was spotted on multiple occasions in 2011.
