Overnight showers and thunderstorms late Monday night have already dropped more than 2 inches of rain in parts of Fairfield County, saturating the ground, the weather service said.
Additional heavy rain and thunderstorms were predicted for Tuesday afternoon. A weak low pressure system with an associated front lift is moving northward into the region, the weather service said.
This could produce very heavy rain and flash flooding. Individual showers or storms could bring 1 to 2 inches of rain in less than an hour. Up to 4 inches or rain is possible if repeated storms move through an area.
