Thousands In Redding, Ridgefield Wake Up Without Power After Storm

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Thousands of residents living in storm-ravaged parts of Redding and Ridgefield woke up Wednesday to find they were still without power after a fast-moving thunderstorm ripped through the region Tuesday afternoon.

While much of Fairfield County was spared the worst of the storm and saw little damage, a mess of downed trees and wires remains in Redding and Ridgefield with a day of cleanup ahead for officials. 

As of 7 a.m., the following number of customers were still suffering power outages, according to Eversource and United Illuminating: 

  • Bridgeport: 10
  • Danbury: 87
  • Easton: 144 
  • Fairfield: 8
  • Redding: 1,920, or 49 percent of the town
  • Ridgefield: 1,971 or 18 percent of the town

Route 58 was closed in Redding about a mile south of Route 107, the Connecticut Department of Transportation reported Wednesday morning. 

Ridgefield and Redding also reported a number of town roads with closures due to downed trees and wires late Tuesday. 

Residents are reminded to stay away from fallen wires and to contact police and Eversource.
