On Monday, over 6 inches of rain inundated southeastern Michigan, causing flooding in homes and prompting disaster declarations for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
The supplies, which include buckets, masks and cleaning supplies, are headed to the Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan for distribution to partner organizations serving affected residents.
“Cleanup supplies are always in high demand following severe flooding,” said AmeriCares Associate Director of Emergency Response Kate Dischino. “In addition to damage done by flooding, in some homes sewage seeped into floodwaters increasing the health concerns. These supplies will help preserve the health of affected residents as they begin to clean up their homes.”
