STAMFORD, Conn. — Brandon Bella continued to recover Monday from injuries in a dirt bike accident last week in North Stamford that took the life of his younger brother, Kevin, a spokesman for Stamford Hospital said.
Brandon, 16, is expected to return home sometime this week, Scott Orstad, manager of corporate communications for the hospital, said, adding there is no definite release date.
The incident took place in an unused field off Long Ridge Road where the brothers collided on dirt bikes, police said. A person living nearby called police when she heard screaming.
The boys were transported to the hospital, where Kevin, 14, was pronounced dead, and Brandon was admitted with “life-threatening injuries.”
The police have ended their investigation in order not to burden the family further, Sgt. Andrew Gallagher said. He added that the schools will reach out to the family and provide support.
“I am just trying to get that boy home and healed,” Gallagher said Monday afternoon.
Readers of the Stamford Daily Voice have expressed condolences and support to the Bella family on our Facebook Page.
“Always remember, Our Lord never sends a cross we cannot carry, but some sure do get heavy. I am praying for of you!” Alberta Bove said.
“No one said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it. You guys always should remember good times with Kevin, jokes and any good moments spent together because that is how they want to be remembered,” Mariela Pernas said.
“The poor mother, I cannot even imagine the pain she is feeling ... God help her,” Joanne Morretti Lowman said.
