An alert was issued by the department on Wednesday after investigators were contacted by several concerned citizens reporting the recent uptick in utility scams, particularly from a fraudster posing as an Eversource employee.

Police said that any homeowner that receives a call from 1-800-387-1880 from a person purporting to be from Eversource, it is a scam. Scammers often employ VOIP and spoof numbers and that calls can appear to be coming from many other numbers.

In response to the recently reported scams, Eversource has compiled a page of tips to avoid scammers, which can be read online.
