Rain, Snow Threaten Greenwich On Busiest Travel Day Of The Year

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Mild temperatures will soon exit Fairfield County and be replaced by snow, which is likely to fall on Wednesday, the busiest travel day of the year, and possibly on Thanksgiving as well.

Temperatures will begin to drop on Tuesday but will remain well above freezing with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s. 

Along coastal Connecticut, rain will begin to fall early Wednesday with a high near 39 degrees. New precipitation of half to three-quarters of an inch are possible.

By Wednesday night, snow is in the forecast with a low of about 30 degrees.

But in northern Fairfield County, a Winter Weather Watch is in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday. Significant snow accumulations are possible for southern Connecticut. 

Heavy snow totaling 4 to 8 inches are possible. 

A mix of rain and snow will fall Wednesday morning, changing to all snow by late Wednesday. The snow will continue into early Thursday before tapering off to snow showers. 

The snowfall will significantly impact holiday travel, making driving dangerous. 

The chance of precipitation is 90 percent.  

Sunny skies will return on Friday with a high temperature of 39.
