GREENWICH, Conn. -- The newly renovated service plaza on the northbound side of the Merritt Parkway in Greenwich will reopen at noon Friday, Jan. 17. This plaza is the 13th of 23 Connecticut highway service plazas to be completely renovated.

Greenwich northbound, as well as all the other plazas that have been or will be renovated, now includes a series of “green” features.

The plaza qualifies to operate to Silver LEED standards. The Greenwich facility will use photovoltaic solar panels, decreasing its dependence on traditional power sources.

It also has facilities for single-stream recycling. Other environmentally conscious features include water-efficient rest rooms and energy-efficient insulation, lighting and heating and air conditioning units.

“We have completed half of the service plazas so far, and look forward to continuing to serve those traveling on Connecticut’s highways as we work to renovate the remaining service plazas in the state,” said Paul Landino, President and CEO of Project Service, in a statement.

The next service plaza to reopen will be the southbound one on the Merritt Parkway in Greenwich. It is expected to open in the next several weeks.
