Robber Wearing 3-D Glasses Arrested in Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. - A Greenwich man clad in a fedora and 3-D glasses robbed the Mobil Gas Station on West Putnam Avenue with a toy gun Thursday night, police said.

Michael James Rinello, 34, of 30 Windy Knolls Apartment A, walked into the gas station and displayed a silver and black handgun. He then demanded cash from the register. The clerk told Rinello he would get in trouble if he were to give him the money. The man then demanded a reduced amount of $200. When the clerk took too long, he asked for only $60 and left the scene.

Rinello reportedly told the clerk, “I have to go. I really need the money, my son is sick in the hospital.” Rinello does not have a son, said Lt. Kraig Gray, of the Greenwich Police Department,.

Police found Rinello a short distance away on Byram Terrace Drive. His clothing and toy gun was found nearby along with hypodermic needles and the money taken in the robbery.

Rinello was arrested and charged with robbery, larceny, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held on a $100,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 16.
