"The generosity of Connecticut taxpayers has raised more than $5.6 million for charitable programs since check-off boxes were added to the state income tax return in 1993," Revenue Services Commissioner Kevin B. Sullivan said in a statement. "Thousands of taxpayers donating a few dollars from their income tax refunds have added up to make a difference in our state.”

The Military Family Relief first took its place on the 2005 income tax return. Since that time, it has raised $594,171 to help traditional active duty service members and their families, as well as the families and service members of the National Guard and Reserves who have been called to active duty.

Refund donations through the Connecticut Income Tax Return have helped fund programs at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Department of Public Health, and Department of Social Services.

Taxpayers eligible for an income tax refund simply select one of the donation funds on the Connecticut Income Tax Return and say how much of their refund they wish to donate.
