Greenwich has got talent. And the Chamber of Commerce wants to showcase it in the fall. On Thursday night, the chamber held a benefit cocktail party to celebrate the 2009 talent show and kick off the 2010 production which is set for Oct. 29 and 30 at Greenwich High School.
Area residents will showcase their talentranging from song and dance to magic and comedyin the show. "I was amazed at the caliber of some of these high school kids," said Mary Ann Morrison, president of the chamber. "It allowed us to get exposed to the depth of talent that is in this town."
A portion of the proceeds from the event will go toward a scholarship given to a Greenwich High School student who will be majoring in business in college. Maria Kelly Stevens, a Greenwich resident will produce and direct the variety show. Open auditions will take place during the Greenwich Sidewalk Sales in Greenwich Common on July 17 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Stevens in best known for her involvement with St. Catherine's Players and dance education background.
"Maria Kelly has been such a wonderful asset to the community," said Morrison. "You really need someone like her make the contacts and give us a step forward."
Auditions will also take place Sept. 13 through the 15. "It really is such a wonderful event," said Stevens. "The kids are so talented and everyone has a great time."
