Rain To Continue Falling Overnight In Greenwich

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The rain picked up again just in time for Thursday afternoon's rush hour in Fairfield County and will continue through the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms with heavy rains and strong winds were expected late Thursday into Friday morning, the weather service said. Another inch of rain was predicted, but the earlier flood warning posted for the area was canceled.

The National Weather Service warned that saturated grounds for recent large amounts of rainfall could make trees and power lines susceptible to falling.

The storm is caused by a low pressure system, which is expected to intensify as it approaches from Ohio and pass south and east of Long Island by Thursday night through Friday morning. The low pressure system is expected to move out to sea by Friday evening.

Gov. Dannel Malloy cautioned residents about potential hazardous weather conditions impacting the state.

“This latest round of severe weather will be similar to last week’s event,” Malloy said, referring to Tropical Storm Andrea, which dumped 3 inches of rain on the region. “The current forecast is calling for heavy rain to continue through Friday morning, so I am asking residents in low-lying areas and those along Connecticut’s rivers and streams to be aware of deteriorating weather conditions.”
