Eddy Herrera, 23, of Hollow Wood Lane in Greenwich was carrying a loaded 9mm High Point handgun as well as an unspecified quantity of cocaine when he was arrested on felony charges, police said Friday.

Port Chester Police Chief Richard Conway said it marked the 21st illegal gun taken off the streets during an arrest this year.

"It's a great example of some heads-up police work under dangerous circumstances,'' Conway told the Daily Voice.

Herrera was charged with second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.

He was being held at Port Chester Police Headquarters pending arraignment.
