The center is accepting names for the newborn giraffe on its website through Friday.

The newborn giraffe is a rare Rothschild giraffe, native to Africa. There are fewer than 670 of this particular kind of giraffe left in the wild.

Petal, a 6-year-old Rothschild giraffe, gave birth to a female calf after a relatively short labor. Several other giraffes watched the event, the release said.

The calf was standing on its own within 30 minutes of its birth, according to the center.
