The winter weather conditions have led to multiple crashes on Fairfield County roadways, leading to a hectic trip for commuters.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation had a busy Wednesday morning, battling the snow and ice, while dealing with multiple accidents throughout the area, including incidents involving tractor-trailers in Greenwich, Westport and Stamford that led to heavy traffic.

More than a dozen crashes were reported by the DOT as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, tying up the roadways for motorists. Multiple crashes on I-95, I-84 and the Merritt Parkway have been cleared, though traffic is still tied up for drivers as crews clean up following the incidents.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in Fairfield by the National Weather Service, as snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected to make traveling difficult for motorists. Ice accumulation is expected to be less than .1 inch, with snow and sleet accumulation less than an inch with more snow expected on Wednesday night.
