Waveny Park will open at 5 p.m. for the festivities, with the half-hour fireworks show scheduled to go off at 9:15 p.m.

Automobiles must enter through the main gate on South Avenue. Lapham Road will be closed to all traffic. Entry passes must be displayed on car windshields. Parking will not be permitted on the roads adjacent to the park.

Pedestrians are urged to enter the park from the high school area.

Planned events include the Town Band, children’s bouncers, glow necklaces, tattoos, flag stickers, and of course, fireworks. Many guests traditionally bring their own picnics to the event.

Family Fourth coordinators ask that participants leave dogs, barbecue grills, personal fireworks - including sparklers - and candles at home. Hamburgers, hot dogs, wraps, salads, ice cream, soda, and bottled water will be available for sale from Garelick & Herbs and the Exchange Club at the park.

Passes for residents are $35 each. Passes can be purchased at the New Canaan Toy Store during business hours; Walter Stewart’s Market from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday; Waveny Pool from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event is funded entirely by the sale of passes and additional donations.

The rain date is Sunday, July 5.
