More Trains Coming To Fairfield County On Oct. 14

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Fairfield County’s train commuters will see more trains on the New Haven line starting Oct. 14, the Metropolitan Transit Authority announced this week.

Metro-North Railroad will add 15 weekday trains and 30 weekend trains to close gaps in service. Some stops have also been removed from some rides to make trips faster. More cars will also be on each train during off-peak and weekend trips to give travelers more seating room. The MTA will implement the following changes on Oct. 14:

? On weekdays, the 6:51 a.m. train from Danbury will no longer stop at Rowayton, Darien or Noroton Heights.

? A new train will start at South Norwalk on weekdays at 7:50 a.m., stopping at Rowayton, Darien, Noroton Heights and Stamford, and then operate as an express to Harlem-125th Street and Grand Central Terminal.

? Two trains will move their origin points to Stamford: the 8:29 a.m. from Harrison and the 8:12 from Port Chester. Both will stop at all stations before their original start point, where they will pick up their normal schedules.

? The 4:26 p.m. train from Grand Central will leave one minute later, at 4:27 p.m. It will now continue to Stamford instead of finishing its run in Harrison.

? The 4:40 p.m. to New Haven will no longer stop at Greenwich. If you are traveling to Greenwich, take the 4:34 p.m. or 4:43 p.m. trains from Grand Central instead.

? A new train will leave Grand Central at 6:26 a.m. on weekdays, stopping at Harlem-125th Street, Fordham, Mount Vernon East, New Rochelle, Rye, Port Chester, Greenwich and Stamford.

? Another new train will leave Grand Central at 8:07 a.m. on weekdays and will stop at Harlem-125th Street, Fordham, Rye, Port Chester, Greenwich, Stamford, and all stops on the New Canaan Branch. The old 8:07 a.m. train to New Haven will leave three minutes earlier and will skip Fordham, Rye, Port Chester, and Greenwich.

? New trains will leave New Haven at 12:31 PM, 1:31 PM, and 5:29 PM on weekends, running semi-express to Stamford, and then running express to Harlem and Grand Central.

? New trains will leave Grand Central at 3:34 PM, 8:34 PM and 9:34 PM on weekends, traveling express to Stamford and then stopping at the busiest stations through New Haven.

? A new train will leave Stamford at 9:43 p.m. Saturdays. It will make all local stops to Mount Vernon East, then Fordham, Harlem-125th Street and Grand Central Terminal. A local train in the other direction will also leave Grand Central at 8:10 p.m., stopping at Fordham, Mount Vernon East, and then all stops to Stamford.

? On Sundays, trains will run every half-hour instead of hourly from Stamford to Grand Central from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and vice versa from 1:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. outbound.

? Most off-peak and weekend trains will now make all stops between New Haven and Stamford, except semi-express trains leaving New Haven and Grand Central on the half-hour.
