A mother from Cos Cob was arrested for allegedly hitting her son with a small piggy bank, causing cuts and bruises Friday. After receiving a telephone call from the Department of Children and Families, Greenwich police officers spoke to the child, who had visible injuries to his face as well as redness, swelling and minor bruising along his back, arm and shoulder.
The mother told a detective she was under a lot of stress and said the child was out of control. She told police that in anger, she threw a small piggy bank into her son's closet but didn't mean to hit him.
She was arrested on charges of risk of injury to a child and third-degree assault. She posted $1,000 bond and was released. The woman is due in court Jan. 18. The child was taken into 96-hour minimum custody of the Department of Children and Families.
