Messy Roads Greet Commuters In Greenwich As Rain, Snow Falls

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Light snow mixed with rain was expected to make for a slow and slippery Tuesday morning commute in Fairfield County, especially inland, and across the metropolitan area, the National Weather Service warned early Tuesday morning.

A strong cold front was moving across the region early Tuesday, with temperatures quickly dropping from the 40s and 50s into the 30s overnight, with miserably cold and wet conditions greeting residents as they woke up, the weather service said in a special statement.

As the cold moved in, light rain showers were transitioning to snow across interior Connecticut and to a mix of snow and rain along the coastline between 4 and 7 a.m.

The snow and rain may cause slippery road conditions and reduce visibility in the morning commute, the weather service warned. Metro-North was also warning of scattered 10 minutes delays along the New Haven Line due to slippery rail conditions.

The precipitation should end by early afternoon. Up to a half-inch of snow is possible, with little to no accumulation along the coast.

Temperatures will remain in the 30s all day, with northerly gusts causing wind chills in the 20s, making for an unseasonably cold Tuesday.
