Merchants to Learn Crime Prevention

Local merchants, who are often the victims of fraud and theft, will get the lowdown on crime prevention from the Greenwich Police Department before the holiday shopping season begins.

The police department, in cooperation with the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force and the U.S. Secret Service, will host an educational seminar geared toward business owners presented by Detective Mark Solomon. He was the 2010 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award winner from the Connecticut Chapter of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators.

The presentation is geared toward educating merchants on current trends in counterfeit currency, credit card frauds and tips on reducing financial crimes against small businesses. It will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the third floor main training room at the Greenwich Police Department, 11 Bruce Place.

Questions can be directed to Lt. Kraig Gray, public information officer for the department, at 203-622-3620.
