Drew Marzullo never expected he would get to meet the president of the United States. But as a Greenwich selectman, he gets invited to some exclusive events, including U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal's Stamford fundraiser with President Barack Obama.
"I am so moved," said Marzullo. "I left the event happy and on a high. I am lucky to have gone tonight. It was amazing to think that you were 200 feet away from Barack Obama. He was interacting with the crowd and making them crack up laughing."
The president came to Stamford during a heavy rainfall to raise money for Blumenthal's campaign. The event at the Stamford Marriott was attended by some 300 Democratic supporters. Marzullo noted that there were a few Republicans scattered throughout the crowd. Obama spoke in a light-hearted tone, though he acknowledged the economic woes of the country and that recovery will not be easy.
"The President was on fire," said Marzullo. "It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me as a medic." Marzullo is an EMT supervisor in Greenwich.
