A New Jersey man who claimed to be a former police officer to get out of a ticket was arrested on Friday. William Montana, 45, of 302 4th Ave., Belmar, was pulled over for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. He showed the arresting officer a gold NYPD detective's badge with the letters D.E.A. inscribed where a badge number would have been. He said he was a former officer with Kings County child protective services and that D.E.A. stood for Detective Endowment Association. He could not answer questions about when he retired and upon further questioning admitted he used to volunteer for child protective services and was never employed by the city of New York. On the front windshield of his car was a gold insignia that said New Jersey State Law Enforcement Association Member and visible through the rear window was a police-style sweatshirt with a Kings County child protective services patch on it. He was charged with impersonation of a police officer and failure to grant right of way at a crosswalk to a pedestrian. He is due in court Aug. 20 on the impersonation charge and Aug. 27 on the crosswalk violation.

? Mark Varbero, 40, of 37 Bradford St. in Harrison was arrested Friday on a warrant charging him with third-degree larceny in the theft of jewelry. On Aug. 9, 2009, Varbero was hired by his then-girlfriend's employer to assist in moving. The homeowner reported in October that a gold pendant, hoop earrings, a gold ring, a gold bracelet, a gold chain and a sapphire and ruby pendant were missing. Varbero is being held on a $10,000 bond and is due in court on Aug. 20.
? Christopher Evans, 19 of 20 Wyngate Road in Greenwich was arrested Sunday night on DWI charges after he was involved in a one-car accident on Cat Rock Road. Evans failed sobriety tests was charged with DWI under 21 and failure to drive right on a curve. He posted a $250 bond and is due in court Aug. 30.
? A woman from Old Greenwich was arrested Sunday night on disorderly conduct charges after calling police to report that she had slapped her husband in the back of the head during an argument. The two are going through a divorce. When police arrived, her husband said he was not injured. She was given a misdemeanor summons and was due in court Monday.
? Sherwin Myrie, 70, of 176 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich, was arrested Sunday night on DWI charges and failure to drive in the right lane on East Putnam Avenue. He posted a $250 bond and is due in court on Aug. 23.
