Malloy: ‘Katrina-like’ Flood Warning In Effect For Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Coastal towns in Fairfield County are being urged to evacuate residents who live near the shoreline as Monday night’s high tide is expected to cause historic flooding, Gov. Dannel Malloy said.

“The winds picked up. More water was forced in the Sound,” Malloy said in a news conference Monday night. He called the warning "Katrina-like."

Towns most at risk are Bridgeport, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford and Westport, Malloy said.

Other towns of substantial concern are Branford, Guilford, Clinton, East Haven, Madison, Milford, New Haven, Old Saybrook, West Haven and Westbrook.

“I’m concerned about all these towns, but I’m especially concerned about the towns from Greenwich to Bridgeport.  Those are municipalities with large population centers that are in harm’s way,” Malloy said in a statement before the news conference. “The situation is dire.”

High tide is expected around 11:59 p.m.
