A Greenwich Police Dept. dog who was featured in TheDailyGreenwich last month was "the lead officer" in the capture of a New Canaan man over the weekend. Tyro, a member of the Greenwich Police K-9 Unit, was released into the suspect's house after police set off "flash-bang" device. The arrest of Scott DeiCas of 295 Ponus Ridge Road capped a 10-hour standoff at the man's home. DeiCas is accused of threatening Weston school officials.
"Tyro was part of the group," said Lt. Kraig Gray, Greenwich Public Information Officer. "He is fully trained in his job and when it came time to take action, he was the lead officer."
According to New Canaan police, DeiCas did not resist. "In situations like this, people react quickly if a K-9 is being released. There is no reasoning with a dog," Gray said. He said the GPD was able to mobilize its officers and get to the scene in less than an hour.
DeCais was taken to New Canaan Police Headquarters and later transported to Weston Police Department. There were no injuries during the incident at his home.
