Josephine Gleeson, Former Greenwich Worker, 86

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Josephine Donnelly Gleeson, a Riverside resident and former town worker in Greenwich, died surrounded by her family on Thursday, Dec. 31. She was 86.

Born in Lackawanna, N.Y., on Aug. 5, 1928, she was raised in Buffalo, Huntington and New York City. She was a daughter of Antoinette Donnelly, who wrote for the New York Daily News Syndicate.

Jo was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Edward J. Gleeson.

For many years, Gleeson worked for the town Of Greenwich in the Social Services Department. Her life was filled with many volunteer interests, including Girl Scouts, St. Matthew's Society, New Covenant House and Greenwich High School Band mother.

Gleeson's greatest accomplishment by far was being a loving and devoted mother to her six children and a caring friend to all.

She is survived by her children JoAnne of Darien, Judy of Wilton Manors, Fla., Jane (Tod) Laudonia of Cos Cob, Jay (Sally) of Stamford, Jean (John Dorish) of Ridgefield and John (Sarah) of Riverside. She leaves three loving grandchildren Kristen, Kelsey and Jack. She is also survived by her sister, Sister Mary of the Assumption.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Riverside on Friday, Jan. 9. Donations may be made to Music and Memory (musicandmemory.org) or the Sacramentine Nuns, 86 Dromore Road, Scarsdale, NY 10583.
