GREENWICH, Conn. John W. Carroll Jr., a former Riverside resident, died on Sunday at Stamford Hospital after a long illness. He was 65.
Carroll was born on July 6, 1946, in Freeport, Long Island. He grew up in Riverside and graduated from St. Marys High School in 1965. He attended Xavier University and graduated from University of Bridgeport, playing football through those years.
He was an insurance broker for Shoreline Associates and Paul Revere Insurance Company. He also was a program manager for Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut, where he helped people with disabilities find jobs.
He also volunteered at Laurel House and Pacific House in Stamford, and Wavenly Care Center in new Canaan.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; daughters Rebecca and Emily; stepdaughters Kim and Natalie; sister Bridget Carroll Snyder, of Riverside; brothers Edward, of Old Greenwich, and Tom, of West Haven; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral home, located at 2900 Summer Street in Stamford. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Bridgets Catholic Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave. in Stamford.
