Joan Levering Jack, a children's advocate who was originally from Greenwich, died May 27 in Darien. She was 78.
Jack began her career at Manhattans Childrens Home Society. She was the co-founder of the Kids to Kids program in Rye, N.Y., which was dedicated to outreach and substance abuse prevention for adolescents throughout Westchester County. She was a board member of the Westchester Childrens Association and tutored at Rye Country Day School. She spent her winters in Palm Beach, Fla., but was a devoted lover of yachting in Greenwich.
Jack is survived by her son, David Morris Jack; her daughters Lisa Elizabeth Jack and Wendy Jack Piazza; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. June 9 at Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien is handling arrangements.
