"It took me about a half-hour to get from the front to there," King said with a laugh, pointing to a spot in the middle Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

The reason for his popularity was his pair of giant Newfoundland dogs, siblings Tank, 6, and Kenzy, 5 1/2 years old, that people couldn't help but to stop and pet.

He has had rescue dogs in the past, but King decided he wanted to own Newfoundland dogs.

"I wanted Newfoundland dogs because they are the greatest dogs in the world," said the Norwalk resident of the 170-pound dogs. "They are gentle giants but you have to have a big yard, a big home and a big car."

The annual dog show is a huge draw for owners in the area who bring their pets. Many also like to check out other dogs and maybe even start the adoption process. The show is put on by Armonk, N.Y.-based Adopt-A-Dog, an organization started in Greenwich.

Among those in attendance were sisters Liz and Cloe Czepiel, of Stamford, who brought along Liz's three Pugs, Millie, 8, Yogi, 4 1/2 and Omie, 8 years old. Liz said she loves Pugs.

"Their personality. They are people pleasers and they are just a funny little dog," she said. While she's busy with the dogs and also calls on Cloe to help out, she said they are easy to own because they sleep about 14 hours per day.

Newcomers at the event, Paige, 10, and her mother Jolie Goldring, of Greenwich, decided to go because they have a new 5-month-old Bernedoodle named Emmitt.

The dog is a mix of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a poodle, a rare breed, Goldring said.

"You don't see very many of them around here and people are always asking me about him," Goldring said.

"It is a really nice way to mingle with other dog owners in town," she said, adding she and Paige got to see their friends while Emmitt was able to play with other dogs.
