FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A small amount of relief is on the way after a sweltering long holiday weekend in Fairfield County, with temperatures due to dip below 90 degrees as the workweek opens, the National Weather Service says.

The multiple says of 90-plus degrees and heat advisories appear to be over, the weather service predicts. But it's still summer in Connecticut.

Monday will be sunny with a high temperature near 88, with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said. Those showers, if they arrive, could be heavy at times.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be much the same -- mostly sunny with highs near 85, it said.
