"Greenwich has lots of elegance and charm," said Barbara Zaccagnini, a residential real estate broker with Coldwell Banker's Greenwich office. "We are very fortunate to live in this area and be able to walk into these small businesses and show our support. These owners are local people who work hard to stay in this town and provide their services to all."
The cost of doing business in Greenwich is not cheap, Zaccagnini explains. "Rent is very high and there are no larger corporate backings to keep many of these businesses afloat." Therefore, store owners must rely on their expertise to keep their business going.
"The community in Greenwich is incredibly supportive," Zaccagnini said, "but sometimes they just need to know these businesses exist."
To help promote local stores, the broker organizes events such as the Patricia Gourlet fashion show which was held this spring. To promote the Greenwich-owned company's fashion line, Zaccagnini used one of her listings to host an elegant evening celebrating fashion and small businesses.
Additionally, Zaccagnini and Coldwell Banker have partnered with Greenwich's C Parker Galleries to exhibit its fine art collection and has promoted restaurants such as Leafline Salad Co. and Dougie's Standby.
Many of these small business owners are friends and neighbors, Zaccagnini said. By buying local, residents allow these stores to stay in Greenwich, and help keep alive what makes the town unique.
